About the Tulsi in our Herbal Tonic Longevity Teas:
All of our teas feature Tulsi, a.k.a. Holy Basil, an adaptogenic herb, acting synergistically in our blends. Tulsi is mentioned repeatedly in ancient Ayurvedic texts and scriptures, and is lovingly referred to as the Queen of Herbs, for it's potent and vast health giving properties. Tulsi, or 'Tulasi' literally translates as 'The Incomparable One', and is a powerful adaptogenic. (Read more about Tulsi as an Adaptogenic here.) An adaptogenic is a special class of herbs supporting the body in adapting to conditions, whether nutritional, emotional or environmental, within day to day life. In this way, Adaptogenics such as Tulsi provide stress relief, immune support and deep rejuvenation capacities.
"At its root, Tulsi means balance, as in the traditional scales of Libra. Si means a horizontal line. So TulaSi means the scales are level, the balance is balanced, referring to Tulsi's uncanny ability to balance us at all levels, from emotions to cell physiology." (Organic India)
"Holy Basil, or Tulsi, significantly increases endurance and physical performance while also increasing one's ability to cope with stress. It acts as a powerful adaptogen, assisting the body in maintaining homeostasis when faced with stress, whether physical, psychological, or environmental. By keeping the body in a balanced state of health, it offers protection from the many diseases caused by these stressors. Holy Basil empowers the body with physical stamina, strengthens immune function, and offers a generous supply of antioxidants. It enhances digestion and assists in the absorption of nutrients from food or other herbs. It also supports the function of the heart, lungs, and liver." (Mountain Rose Herbs)
Traditionally grown as a houseplant in every Indian home, and still is today, Tulsi is a profound modern ally. In fact, its consciousness is traditionally worshiped in India, so profound are its abilities to assist humans. Worship of a plant in this way is a form of gratitude and reinforces the connection between humans and the earth. Here at Lady of the Lotus, we simply work in partnership with Tulsi, for the betterment of all. For more information, visit Organicindia.com or MountainRoseHerbs.com.
ps.-We love the 'other' Basil, too. Tulsi's not the traditional basil for pesto, though. It's got a milder taste, and a more earthy aroma. We think you'll love it, too! It supports a connected, focused, relaxed state. Our teas feature it in moderate amounts, to enhance and create greater synergy in our blends. (Synergy makes everything work better!)
